Festive Season Skincare Tips

With Christmas treats and festive drinks being created, add in Lockdown 2 rules and your selfcare rituals might not be one of your top priorities this year.

To rescue your skin during this period, here are our top skincare tips that we live by:

Remove your make-up

The festive season often comes with a lot of late nights, but however tired or busy you are, always ensure to find time at the end of each day to remove your make-up.

A cleanser is key to great skincare as it not only removes makeup but also the pollutants, dirt and grime that build up during the day. With oil and sebum building up on the skin overnight, cleansing in the morning is just as important – especially if you consider what might be transferred from the pillow to your face.

At Absolute Aesthetics, we use and recommend the Obagi Gentle Cleanser or Obagi CRX Cleanser. Depending on your skin type and skincare requirements, one of these cleansers can be included in your daily skincare routine. Different cleansers may be recommended instead if you experience skin issues or concerns such as breakouts or congestion.

Don’t overindulge

Of course we’re not saying don’t enjoy the wide variety of festive foods, just try make sure you eat them in moderation. Cutting down on sugars, bad fats and caffeine will all help towards achieving a nice glow to the skin, so look at including the ‘healthy treats’ during the festive period to nourish your skin from the inside out.

Don’t forget to limit the chances of your skin looking dry, tired and grey – keep your skin hydrated by drinking six to eight glasses of water a day.

Update your skin care routine

It’s important to adjust your skincare routine according to the needs of your skin. Your skin is continuously being challenged by factors such as your diet, pollution and seasonal weather and life changes that you may be experiencing during this period.

Tweaking your skincare routine and removing or adding products is key to great looking skin. For example, using a moisturiser such as Obagi Hydrate will help keep skin hydrated and soft throughout this winter season.

Don’t forget to Exfoliate

Exfoliation will increase blood circulation and remove the dry and dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, allowing new cells to surface and give the skin back its healthy glow.

There are several excellent at home exfoliation kits such as the Agera Microderma System that can be used once or twice a week. However, a superior level of exfoliation can be achieved by the HydraFacial procedure where a mild skin peel and antioxidants are applied simultaneously to protect and rejuvenate the skin. This procedure can be pre-booked at Absolute Aesthetics.

Minimise Alcohol

While pubs and restaurants are currently closed and the planning of a quiet festive season with your loved ones is eminent, it is easy to indulge and buy bottles of alcohol to enjoy, while at home. Unfortunately, excessive amounts will take its toll triggering breakouts and long-term ageing effects. So maybe try and find that balance that doesn’t affect your skin.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep plays such an important factor in skin care. While you sleep, the body goes into a regenerative and constructive mode, where it also produces collagen. Even though your work and life schedule will change if you’re now working from home and trying to plan your festive ongoings, you should make sure to get enough rest for the benefit of your skin.

Absolute Aesthetics offer skincare consultations that include an in-depth analysis of your skin using the Visia facial scanning system. All packages are bespoke to patients and results reviewed and adjusted at regular appointments throughout the seasonal year.
