Medical Microdermabrasion is a skin restoration procedure that aims to produce smoother, clearer and younger looking skin. It is also used for skin problems such as acne, blackheads/whiteheads, sun damage and fine lines. Medical Microdermabrasion should be painless and the results can be seen in just one visit. There should be no side effects and no "down time" for recovery.
The treatment involves using a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin - this removal is called "exfoliation". The skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients.
The procedure is performed using a hand piece that the clinician passes over the skin. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin. At the same time the underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes new collagen which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to ageing.
The treatment will start with a consultation with the clinician, to discuss worries, contra indications and allergies, also to explain what the procedures are and what should be expected.
The treatment will be performed in one of our specialised treatment rooms. To begin, the clinician will place a headband to keep the hair off of the face and then will clean the skin. Eye shields will then be applied to protect the crystals from entering the eye. The machine will be tested for power, usually on the clinician's own arm, and then a routine of movements will be performed over the client's face.
At the end of the treatment, any residue of the crystals that is left will be dusted off. The eye shields will be carefully removed. A soothing and re-hydrating serum, eye cream and moisturiser are then applied to the whole of the area that was treated.
There should be no side effects from Medical Medical Microdermabrasion, although the client's face might appear mildly rosy and they may experience some warmth and an increased sensitivity for a few days after treatment.
After the first treatment, clients should notice marked improvements in the texture of their skin. They should notice a reduction in the number of blocked pores (blackheads). The long term benefits of multiple procedures can be remarkable, producing clearer, toned and smoother skin.
Medical Medical Microdermabrasion is generally a safe procedure. However, as the macine at Absolute Aesthetics is a true Medical Medical Microdermabrasion unit, it has a far higher power available than the "beauty" Medical Microdermabrasion machines that are widely found in salons or for home use. As such the power has to be selected appropriately for the client's skin. Like any treatment, there contraindications and a small risks of an adverse result. These are reduced by the pre-procedure consultation.
The full treatment of Medical Medical Microdermabrasion should take 30-40minutes. If the treatment is combined with Agera® skin peels the procedure should take 1 hour (Please see the Agera® Peels leaflet).
Medical Medical Microdermabrasion shows an immediate effect after just one treatment. However, improved effects can be obtained by having combined Agera® Peels with the Medical Medical Microdermabrasion, or regular Medical Medical Microdermabrasion treatments.
The frequency of such treatments will depend on the clients skin type and what they wish to achieve from the treatment.
If a specific problem is being addressed, a course of 5 sessions is usually required.
