Because laser targets pigment, patients who are tanned are not suitable for treatment so we recommend treatment to start / resume four weeks post tanning. Pregnancy is contraindicated. Patients with active skin conditions, or who have a history of cancer, epilepsy or cardiac problems are also precluded from treatment. A full medical history is taken prior to treatment when you can discuss any further questions or worries that you may have with the expert clinician. It is a perfect treatment for those sensitive areas like the face and bikini line.
Absolute Aesthetics uses the Soprano laser hair removal system. It is a revolutionary, virtually pain free, hair removal treatment. It has the unique benefit of being able to cool the surrounding skin while heating the melanin of the hair in the targeted area, killing the follicle and preventing further hair growth. The sensation of receiving the treatment is similar to that of a warm massage making the treatment a comfortable and pleasant experience. Unlike other laser and IPL procedures, the Soprano laser treatment is delivered in a sweeping, painting technique to ensure a complete coverage of the treated area. The treatment itself can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated.
Instead of emitting one pulse to heat the hair follicle, the Soprano laser hair removal system fires out high speed pulses at a lower energy. It can still heat the hair to the required level to destroy the hair follicle and provide effective hair removal, but because it fires so rapidly and has the ability to keep the skin cool, hair removal with the Soprano is much less painful than other laser or Intense Pulse Light treatments.
Prior to the actual treatment going ahead there is a pre-treatment consultation during which the patient’s medical history is discussed and a full explanation of the treatment is provided by the clinician. The treatment itself can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Before treatment the area must be shaved to ensure the hair is as short as possible on the skin to maximise the effectiveness of the laser and to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
Laser hair removal can only work on the fully grown hair and for optimum results the treatment has to be repeated to coincide with the growth and rest cycles of the hair follicles. This means that a course of 4 to 6 treatments are necessary to destroy as many hair follicles as possible to ensure permanent hair removal.
Lasers have been used in medicine for over 40 years and there is no evidence of long term damage to the skin or skin disorders as a result of laser treatment. Absolute Aesthetics is very experienced at laser hair removal but nevertheless insists that all patients have a skin patch test to see how the skin and hair responds to ensure that any possible reactions can be avoided.
After laser hair removal the skin can be temporarily more sensitive. It can look a little bumpy and red but this soon settles down. After treatment patients are given a post treatment care leaflet with some easy to follow do’s and don’ts. Patients are advised to wear a high factor SPF sun protection cream on the treated areas in strong sun.
